St. Johns Public Math Day

Starting in 2019, we’ve partnered with local businesses in the historic St. Johns neighborhood of Portland, Oregon to celebrate Public Math Day each September. Over the years we’ve enjoyed math walks with Ron Lancaster, math story times with several authors, including Christopher Danielson, and wonderful math play with the entire St. Johns community! Two Rivers Bookstore is the organizer of the event each year, and we made them a math-y bookmark in honor of the occasion.

Place-Based Promotional Posters

To promote the first year of the event and generate buzz leading up to Public Math Day, we worked with community partners and neighborhood small businesses (clothing boutiques, hardware store, local landmarks) to develop place-based posters with playful math prompts.
